Traditional Italian Meals You Won't Forget

If you're looking for a decadent, authentic Italian food, look no further than South Huntington's own Matteo's Trattoria. Matteo's, located at 300 W. Jericho Turnpike. Matteo's serves in the traditional family style, meaning there is plenty to eat and share. This South Huntington local restaurant provides the best of Italian dining in a classy atmosphere. Everything from the lighting to the plating of the food is exquisite and lauded by patrons, who describe the food as "out of this world."
Matteo's notable appetizer or "antipasti" menu includes short rib sliders with pickled vegetables, cilantro, and sweet chilis, baked clams oreganata, stuffed mushrooms, grilled calamari arugula with house-made lemon caper vinaigrette, and even grilled octopus with white beans, tomato, and extra virgin olive oil. There is also a delicious zucchini friti, grilled ciabatta with arugula and balsamic vinaigrette, and more.
The salads include Matteo's specialty chopped salad, made of fresh iceberg lettuce, roasted peppers, olives, tomato, and onion. One can also choose Matteo's Greek Salad, (Insalate Greca), which includes feta, olives, pepperoncini, and their special oregano vinaigrette.
Matteo's exquisite pasta plates include the essentials, including fettuccine carbonara with pancetta, onions, and parmigiano, fusilli primavera with sautéed vegetables, garlic, and extra virgin olive oil, and penne vodka with prosciutto, onion, tomato cream. Less traditional pasta options include pappardelle noodles with wild mushrooms and truffle cream and zucchini linguine with tomato, crunchy caramelized onions, and basil.
Matteo's offers a unique selection of daily pasta specials, including the Risotto del Giorno, which is the day's risotto special, gnocchi with pesto sauce, "Gnocchi e Pesto" with basil, pine nuts, garlic, and extra virgin olive oil, and the decadent "Linguine Pescatore," which is a simple spaghetti plate enhanced with shrimp, clam, mussels, calamari, linguini, and Pomodoro sauce.
There is a fantastic selection of chicken dinners, such as the special Chicken Matteo, which is a tasty combination of sausage, peppers, broccoli, and potatoes, as well as several roasted and baked chicken options, all including complementary sides. Other meat options include the celebrated braised beef short rib with grilled asparagus and mashed potatoes, and prime New York Strip Steak with 28 dry aged truffle fries.
The seafood menu is extensive, and offers staples like grilled salmon with spinach, lemon, and olive oil, shrimp scampi with saffron rice and a lemon emulsion, as well as less common meals like Shrimp Wendy, which includes grilled shrimp with burnt string beans and a creamy Dijon marinade. If Shrimp Wendy isn't for you, there is also Shrimp Courtney, which includes beer battered succotash and roasted corn sauce.
With all of these delectable meals, there is a large selection of sides to choose from. Sides include sautéed escarole, mashed or roasted potatoes, burnt cauliflower, truffle fries, grilled asparagus, and more.
To accompany your meal, Matteo's provides an abundant wine list, offering some very special options. The Italian wines available include whites, such as a Jermann Pinot Grigio from Friuli-Venezia. Reds include options for Campania, Chianti, Montalcino, Abruzzo, Sicilia, and Veneto. Wines can be ordered conveniently by the glass or half bottle.
After your meal is finished, Matteo's offers the classic Italian desserts, including fresh fruit, tiramisu, and cannoli. Happy Hour at Matteo's is actually three hours, from five until eight in the evening from Monday through Friday. Here you can get half price drinks and $5 "Bar Bites!"
